Ahh, so we're back to the telnet vs ssh debate again. DISABLE TELNETD! Purge it from your system! Keep the client around...it can be a useful debugging tool. The most common argument for not disabling telnet is access from any machine. All windows machines have a telnet program, ssh is an add on product. Soultions: Java-SSH (usually sucks for IRC though.) http://www.mindbright.sw/mindterm PuTTy: Fres ssh client, should fit on a floppy: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ ttssh: http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/teraterm.html (Putty has better support for color and stuff though, you can hack teraterm to be decent though. generally involves running everything in screen.) I used to have a ssh client (and an X-server) on my zip disk. Was rather useful around campus. (faster than a floppy too.) Other labs probally have tighter security though. Can't remember the mac clients...sorry. -- \\\|/// \\ - - // ( @ @ ) ----oOOo--(_)-oOOo-------------------------------------------- Andy Zbikowski, Sys Admin | (WEB) http://www.ltiflex.com LTI Flexible Products, Inc. | (PH) 763-428-9119 (EX) 132 21801 Industrial Blvd | (FX) 763-428-9126 Rogers, MN 55374 | (PCS) 612-306-6055 ---------------Ooooo------------------------------------------ ( ) ooooO ) / ( ) (_/ \ ( \_) -------------- next part -------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: tclug-list-unsubscribe at mn-linux.org For additional commands, e-mail: tclug-list-help at mn-linux.org
