Never tried it myself, not sure how it works... it's XFree86's own built-in autoconfigurator. it'll generate a very minimal, but functional XF86Config file. man X run XFree86 -configure grab the resulting XF86Config file, and put it in the appropriate place man XF86Config, and figure out how to hack up the file by hand to make it do what you want. it's somewhat easier to read a 4.x config file than a 3.x. alternatively, wait a while for the config tools to catch up with X development; or for the fancy X4 GUI config tool to actually *do something* useful. anyone remember XFree86 2? how bad was it? how bad was the upgrade to X3?
