After greping for a while,  to no avail, I decided that OS X would solve my 
problem. And it did. OS X had a friendly setting for setting the clock to an 
ntp server. It was set but no server listed. Aparently OS X has the power to 
write to Open Firmware itself. No battery needed. No waiting for mobile Linux.
