I don't know how long it's been around, but you can get a jumpstart on
an install now by using their pre-compiled ISO (about 100 MB instead of
16 MB for the roll your own from scratch version). The larger iso
installs a pre-built i686 system. (Pentium Pro or high required, K6
won't work.) This would allow you to jump right in to installing X +
whatever GUI environment you want and cut probably 8 hours off
the install (assuming you're using recent vintage hardware).
