I don't have an answer to your question, per se, but I'd just like to point out that "MAC" doesn't mean what you think it does: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/faq.html#A.6.1 From that page: "In this context MAC stands for Message Authentication Code. It's a cryptographic term, and it has nothing at all to do with Ethernet MAC (Media Access Control) addresses."
