Since I have installed Debian 3, I haven't been able to get the sound system to work. Looking for answers, I find lots of information in bits and pieces -- for example I was able to change the error message from something like "permission denied" or "/dev/dsp does not exist" to the following, by adding users to the "audio" group. I believe I have a driver loaded ("via82cxxx" appears in lsmod), but there seems to be so many different ways of configuring sound, much of it conflicting advice, that I'm not sure where I'm at anymore. Most everything else about setting up Debian has been fairly straightforward, or the set-up recognises the hardware and gets the configuration right. I wonder if I've missed something, that would help get the sound working?
