Mandrake is the only 64 bit version I haven't tried. Well, I haven't tried Suse, but I have the discs for it. Both Gentoo and Fedora Core 2 worked like a champ for me. Gentoo initially had more packages available, but FC2 caught up pretty fast, and Dag's Apt repository has a nice selection now. Nvidia drivers worked like a champ. --paul On Fri, 2004-09-03 at 20:06, Mark Browne wrote: > We have a new member in the family - I have my new Compaq SA4000Z sitting in > the shipping box in my dining room as I type this. > > I can sense that it *really* wants to come out and play. > > I am controlling myself and planning out the hardware, apps, games and > utilities as part of setting it up. > Then comes the fun of rounding up the install disks and fetching updated > drivers as needed. > > Naturally, this process will include one of the many Linux distros. > I need it to dual boot / co-reside with Win-XP pro. > > Any comments on which distro best supports the Athlon 64 today? > BTW - it has an NVIDIA gforce graphics card, and Sound Blaster audigy sound, > if that matters. > I am partial to Mandrake but I really want to see what a 64 bit box can do! > > Mark Browne > > > > > _______________________________________________ > TCLUG Mailing List - Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota > Help beta test TCLUG's potential new home: http://plone.mn-linux.org > Got pictures for TCLUG?
