Cards based on the Atheros chipset are more or less the gold standard
for wireless in Linux. I picked up a brand new ORiNOCO GOLD PC card
the other day for about $70, just to do some wireless sniffing. :)

When shopping for network cards, the fastest way I've found is to
browse a vendor that will display the manufacurer part number (CDW
works well) and then dropping the part number into
http://www.google.com/linux.

There is also http://www.linuxcompatible.org, and probally other sites.
