For what it's worth, I have not seen this problem. For me, it is usually rdesktop over a short-distance LAN type connection from RHEL/Fedora to WinXP/2000Server and I can't recall being dropped frequently. Occasionally, across town to an office but, still, good connectivity and not a lot of dropped connections. Out of curiosity, is a VPN involved during these dropped connections? If so, can the VPN be taken out of the equation while still keeping the login credentials secure across the network? May be worth a try.
