Xorg -configure indeed gave me a new config file, however I was thrown off because: # X -config /root/xorg.conf.new starts X with no output of any kind. To confirm it really worked, I copied it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and just issued an 'xinit'. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the help everyone. Call me old school, but I REALLY miss xf86config. Brian
