One interesting thing I noticed on this: On the Parallela website, they state in their FAQ that they're shipping a CLI-only version of Ubuntu. Given the intended use case for this, that seems completely reasonable. If I were purchasing a piece of hardware intended to enable parallel computing software developement, I certainly wouldn't want a GUI sitting around sucking resources. However, in their kickstarter video, they highlight its use as a HTPC/browsing machine, which obviously requires X.
