If they have multiple subnets I'd also want to know if they have QoS configured and what bandwidth limits they have configured for which traffic patterns. I'd also check for NAT translation issues on the LAN. It's hard to envision what quality of network configuration they have setup based on the original description but somebody should be able to provide you with a network diagram unless it was just cobbled together.
